Flying Rocket

Art provides opportunities to delve deeper into learning, as projects inspire real-life questions.

Supplies:

• Construction paper
• Red crepe paper
• Popsicle stick
• Black yarn
• Star stickers
• Markers of crayons
• Tape
• Scissors

Adult Preparation:

• Cut rocket shapes from paper (see downloadable diagram to the right)
• Cut crepe paper in half, and give each child one half.

Activity with Children:

1. Decorate the rocket pieces by using crayons and markers.
2. Next, decorate the piees with the star stickers. (You can draw on stars if you don't have stickers.)
3. Lay the pieces down about 1/4-inch apart from each other.
4. Place a piece of yarn over every piece. Leave the excess string at the top of the rocket, and tape yarn in place on each piece.
5. Tape the red crepe paper to the bottom of rocket to make flames
6. Use markers and crayons to decorate the crat stick.
7. Tie the yarn around the crat stick to make a handle.
8. Use the handle to fly your rocket!
