Supplies: (many are included if you order the kit at www.MotherGooseTime.com)

  • 1 small paper plate for each child
  • Beans
  • Craft stick (popsicle stick)
  • Paper plate or tray for paint
  • Tape
  • Stapler

Adult Preparation:

  • Maracas InstructionsDownload the instruction sheet from the Art Studio image to the right.
  • Divide beans evenly between the children.
  • Pour a small amount of paint onto the paper plate or tray.

Activity with Children:

  • Take one small paper plate and fold it in half.
  • Staple along the edge of the paper plate (Note: children may need adult help. You will need to staple close together so that your beans do not fall out. Remember to leave a one inch space at the bottom of your paper plate to pour your beans through when you get to the next step.)
  • Pour your beans through the one inch opening.
  • Slide the craft stick through the one inch opening and then finish stapling close.

Note: You may want to place a staple through the craft stick and paper plate to secure more tightly. You can also use a piece of tape to secure the craft stick to the paper plate.

  • Dip your cardboard tube into the paint and press on one side of your maraca to create prints.
  • Use a variety of colors. Allow to dry.
  • Repeat above 2 steps to decorate the second side.
  • When dry make music with your maraca!
